Obituary of Jean S. Flanigan
Jean S. Flanigan, 94, of Auburn, passed away August 17, 2024 at Auburn Community Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Jennie (Lee) Salzer.
Jean was a well known labor and delivery nurse for 35 years at Auburn Memorial Hospital. After her retirement, she continued her dedication to the hospital as a volunteer in numerous departments.
Jean's deepest love and appreciation was seeing and spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to every visit, vacation, holiday and family pool party. She inspired the meaning of love with every opportunity to hold, care for and simply show that family was everything. Her love of family, from the youngest to the oldest, brought boundless joy and a smile to her face. She exemplified the meaning of true family togetherness.
Jean's greatest joy was sitting in her chair on the beach in Longboat Key, soaking up the sunshine then taking a relaxing swim in the gulf. If there was a boat going for a pleasure ride, she was the first to claim her rights to the best seat. Her adventurous nature enjoyed all that life had to offer.
Jean had more friends than one could count. Those most special to her were "The Bridge Ladies" and "The Y Group". She always enjoyed a good game of bridge and an occasional luncheon with friends. Her infectious smile was a bright light to all who knew her.
The family would like to thank her wonderful , kind-hearted aides Sue, Barb, Pauline and Candy. Their undying commitment provided Jean with continued assistance and friendship. Also, our deepest gratitude goes to Dr. Rama Godishala and Dr. Mark McSwain for their loving care.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Murphy, Michael (Debi) Flanigan, Sandra Hall, David Flanigan and Karol (Daniel) Soules; 14 grandchildren and 30 great- grandchildren. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 71 years Harry P. Flanigan, Jr. in 2023, her two children Terry Flanigan and Patricia Flanigan, a grandson Dustin Flanigan, a brother Frederick Salzer and a son-in-law Kenneth Hall.
