Obituary of Doris Wayne
Doris Wayne, 92, of Owasco, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 at her home. Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Marjorie (Thompson) Pritchard. Doris was a 1950 graduate of Union Springs Central High School. She was employed as a secretary for many years with Cayuga Community College.
Doris was an avid reader and was active in books clubs. She enjoyed gardening in her younger years as well as preserving and canning all the bountiful goodness for her family. Boating on all of the Finger lakes was one of her favorite pastimes along with camping and would often say, "the more rugged, the better". In her later years, she was very independent and found pleasure in mowing her lawn on a sunny day, living on her own and driving her car until just recently.
She was a sports fan who watched and followed many sports events, especially SU Basketball, Boston Celtics and the NY Yankees; but mostly cheering on all of her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Owasco Reformed Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women's Guild.
She is survived by her two children Sharon (Chris) Farrar and Mark Wayne; a brother Charles Pritchard; five grandchildren Naomi (Rich) Ryfun, Delia (Jeremy) Anderson, Justin (Ashley) Wayne, Matthew (Kat) Farrar, Kevin (Laura) Farrar; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Martin J. Wayne in 2008 and by their son Gary Wayne in 1995.
Friends are invited to visit the family on Saturday, July 27 from 9-10:30AM followed by a service at 10:30AM at the Owasco Reformed Church. Burial will be in Owasco Rural Cemetery. The omission of flowers is requested. Those wanting to make a donation in memory of Doris may do so to the Owasco Fire Departments, stations #1 or #2. of your choice.
