Obituary of Robert Purdy Gallager
Robert P. Gallager, a life-long resident of Auburn, NY passed away peacefully at St. Francis House, Syracuse, NY on October 11, 2023 at the age of 94.
Bob is survived by his wife Joan Muldoon. He was predeceased by his first wife of 48 years, Anne Drancsak Gallager. Bob is also survived by five children, Michael Gallager of Auburn, Patricia (Thomas) White of Duxbury, MA, Robert (Sue) Gallager of Fountain Hills, AZ, Mary Vanacore of Auburn, and Ed (Laurie) Gallager of Syracuse; a sister Patricia Gallager of Auburn; a sister Kay Lavey of Little Rock, AR, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by his sister Marcelline McTiernan of Hauppauge, NY.
Bob was born in Auburn on May 24, 1929 to Edward and Marcelline Gallager. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1952 with a Business degree. After graduating he took a gap year to serve at the front line in the Korean War. He was extremely proud of his service for his country. He began working at Hammond and Irving in 1954 and was the Executive Vice President from 1968 to 1994. He continued working up to his 90th birthday.
Bob was a devoted family man. He had many passions. He was a golfer, an avid reader, a Yankee fan, a gardener, he loved St Bonaventure, and he was a proud member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, including trips to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Bob was a communicant at Holy Family Church.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to his wonderful and loving aids and to the staff at St. Francis House for their excellent care and compassion provided to Bob.
A Mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, October 17th at Holy Family Church, 85 North Street, Auburn. The Family will receive friends from 9-10 am at the church prior to the Mass.
