Obituary of Gertrude S. Bench
Gertrude S. Bench, 105, formerly of Buck Point, Auburn, passed away February 19, 2018 at Finger Lakes Center For Living. A lifelong native of Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Gertrude Martin Springer. Mrs. Bench was an active life member and choir member of First Presbyterian Church and a board member of The Presbyterian Lay Committee. In her earlier years she enjoyed cooking, swimming and golfing and through the years was known for hand making teddy bears for all her family members, friends and strangers. Gertrude's family cherished their time spent with her. They treasure all her wonderful memories and stories she shared with them right until her age of 105 young. She was an example of an understanding, kind hearted and compassionate person
Surviving are her three children, Carol (John) Sager, Roy (Susanne) Bench and Susan (Hank) Emerson; 19 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren, 24 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Walter I. Bench, Sr., in 2000; a daughter, Cynthia Brintnall and her husband William, a son Walter I. Bench, Jr and his wife Ann, a brother, Charles Springer, grandson Roy Brintnall, great grandchildren Amy Brintnall and Shane Brintnall.
The family will greet friends at 10AM April 21 at the First Presbyterian Church 112 South Street Auburn, and a Memorial Service will follow at 11AM Please visit www.Langhamfuneralhomellc.com to leave a condolence or light a candle in Gertrude's memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Finger Lakes Center For Living 20 Park Ave Auburn in memory of Mrs. Bench.
